At Pima we went on the 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Center (AMARG), also known as the "Boneyard," tour. There were tons of aircraft.
I enjoyed the Titan much more. The tour was very interactive. We were able to actually go inside the missile control room. I was even able to play with the controls (I have the proof too- even if my name is spelled wrong)!
We were lucky enough to have a rare (this will only occur again in 105 years) sighting of Venus crossing the Sun yesterday too. Matt rigged-up a make-shit telescope with the binoculars and the side of Stan to see this cool event. The black spec below is Venus. We cleaned the trailer first, so we know that it is not just dirt ;)
There is still plenty more today. We're looking forward to hitting the Biosphere now. xxx
I'm not sure if Matt told you, but I was stationed at Davis-Monthan AFB for 3 about years in the mid 60's and stopped by there on my way back from bringing the cats out west a few years back. It was much changed, but mostly still desert.
ReplyDeleteI think it was the Pima County Desert Museum that I used to really enjoy visiting...wish I had thought to mention it earlier. http://www.pimacountyattractions.com/Attractions/ASDM.html I still remember a caged up roadrunner pacing back and forth.
I hope your typo does not hit the oscillating air mover. ;-)
Matt did not tell me this- in fact I'm not sure he remembered. How interesting though.
ReplyDeleteIt is great to hear your recommendation for the Desert Museum, because we are hoping to hit that today on the way to Silver City.
